Despite the excesses of nature commercialisation, only a few high-altitude areas in the Alps are able to retain some of their magic. One of these inaccessible plateaus is the eastern Dachsteinstock in the northern Limestone Alps. Am Stein explores the lost myths of this area and deals with the real life of the Grafenbergalm and its staff, with the interests and conflicts of the alpine farmers in a traditional tourist area.

Geomancy - mythical tales and echoes of magical ideas - are juxtaposed with the facts of the rural working world - the rhythms and processes of the alpine summer - but also with the expectations and fantasies of a holiday culture. The seemingly familiar and self-evident becomes strange and vice versa.

 ‘We immerse ourselves in the realm of the extraordinary writer and author Bodo Hell, who has looked after, explored, researched and described this high plateau as a shepherd of the Ramsau farmers for over 45 years,’ writes director Othmar Schmiderer about his friend Bodo Hell, who has been missing in the area since last summer.
